Singapore legal market opened to UK firms
The Law Society has welcomed the government of Singapore’s decision to award four of its six Qualifying Foreign Law Practice (QFLP) licenses to UK firms.
The scheme is a significant step forward in the opening up of the Singapore legal services market to foreign firms. Under the scheme, Clifford Chance, Allen and Overy, Norton Rose, and Herbert Smith will now be able to practice most areas of Singapore law, making it easier to offer a seamless integrated service to their clients.
Representatives from the Law Society and the British government have travelled to Singapore in recent months to make the case for UK firms and to advocate for further liberalisation.
