Chief Justice of Nepal visits Law Society
Law Society President Andrew Holroyd was pleased to welcome the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal, Mr. Kedar Prasad Giri, to the President’s residence on 25 June. Nepal has recently experienced significant political changes, including the signing of a peace deal, the abolition of the monarchy, and the election of a new Constituent Assembly which will re-draft the country’s constitution.
The Chief Justice and his delegation were in London at the invitation of the Foreign Office to learn more about the legal system in the UK. The President gave an overview of the solicitor’s profession in England and Wales and expressed the Law Society’s support for an independent judiciary in Nepal. The Law Society’s international department will continue to liaise with the Chief Justice’s office to determine opportunities for cooperation.
