International Update July 2012: update from head of International Julia Bateman
Welcome to the latest update bringing you international events, activities and updates.
As London gears up for the 2012 Olympics and the Olympic Torch makes it way around the country, we take a forward look to opportunities in Rio as Brazil takes first place on our agenda for the coming months. Find out more about our London-based event in September and Sao Paolo legal services seminar in October as we take part in the Lord Mayor’s trade mission to Latin America.
The summer season sees the handover of the presidency baton from John Wotton to Lucy Scott-Moncrieff who took office on 5 July. The first summer engagement for the president is traditionally the American Bar Association annual meeting followed by the Canadian Bar Association annual legal conference. Both events offer an excellent opportunity to meet fellow bar leaders and refresh international contacts ready to receive them in London for the ceremonial activities related to the Opening of the Legal Year at the start of October.
For bar leaders of the future one might need to look no further than the International Association of Young Lawyers {AIJA}. AIJA celebrates its 50 year anniversary this year with a conference in Barcelona. With a diverse programme and lawyers from around the world this deserves to be an exciting event.
