Debate on alternatives to prison and whether the Human Rights Act has a role in prison reform?

Join in our lively debate on the Human Rights Act and its effect, if any, on prison reform and whether alternatives to custody really work.

The debate is being held at 6pm on the 20 June 2012.

This event is FREE and awarded with 1.5 CPD.

Speakers include:

  • Simon Creighton, Partner, Bhatt Murphy Solicitors - Does the HRA have a role in prison reform?
  • Penelope Gibbs, Director of the Out of Trouble programme at the Prison Reform Trust - Last resort?  why new alternatives to custody don't reduce prison numbers

On the evening the Law Society will also be awarding the winner of it's annual Graham Turnbull essay competition on human rights.

This year's essay title was: ‘In the light of the growing prison population should we look for alternatives to imprisonment?'
