Law Society hosts EU commissioner for justice, vice president Viviane Reding
Law Society vice president Lucy Scott-Moncrieff hosted a roundtable discussion in Brussels with EU commissioner for justice, fundamental rights and citizenship, vice president Viviane Reding on Friday 23 March.
Practitioners with a wide range of expertise in business-to-consumer and business-to-business contracts took the opportunity to set out their views and ideas on the initiative for a Common European Sales Law and, more generally, on how to improve cross-border commerce. The Law Society has engaged with a broad cross-section of the profession, including practitioners from a variety of law firms and in-house counsel, in order to create a balanced stance from a practitioner perspective.
Lucy Scott-Moncrieff said: 'The Law Society's remit is to promote the valuable role of solicitors and their practical expertise. This successful event was an opportunity for solicitors from many parts of the profession to explain their views and ideas about this and other policies which aim to improve cross-border commerce.'
The Law Society will continue to provide solicitor expertise as the debate progresses and input to this and other areas of EU justice policy.
