ImageThe American Bar Association’s Section of International Law will host its 2010 Spring Meeting April 13-17 at the Grand Hyatt New York. The global economy and its effects on the international legal profession and its clients will be the key issue of discussion at the meeting.

NYCThe American Bar Association (ABA) Section of International Law is holding its 2010 spring meeting in New York City, 14 - 16 April. The meeting is a ‘must attend’ meeting for international lawyers, it will attract around 1500 international lawyers for three days of seminars and networking.

Oregon Supreme Court adopts new admission on motion reciprocity rule change

The Oregon Supreme Court on December 2, 2009, approved an amendment to the reciprocal admissions rule. The new rule, effective January 1, 2010, will greatly expand the number of jurisdictions from which lawyers can be licensed in Oregon without having to take and pass the Oregon bar exam. Likewise, OSB members will now be eligible to become licensed in these jurisdictions without an exam.

Law Society hosts visit from 2009 Temple Bar Scholars

ImageThe Law Society has been working with the American Inns of Court on their 2009 Temple Bar Scholarship programme by hosting a visit to the Law Society and arranging law firm placements for the scholars whilst they are in London.

Each year the American Inns of Court selects four outstanding US lawyers to spend four weeks in the UK to learn more about the English legal system.

World Bank launches Doing Business 2010 survey: results show a record in business regulation reform

The World Bank has launched its Doing Business 2010 report which reveals that governments have set a new record in regulation reform to improve the ease of doing business. Reformers focused on making it easier to start and operate a business, strengthening property rights and improving the efficiency of commercial dispute resolution and bankruptcy procedures.

International Division attends ABA annual meeting in Chicago

As one of the major international conferences of the year, it was a useful opportunity to meet up with partners at the ABA, other foreign bar associations, and our members attending the event.
